La La Land Soundtrack – Varios Artistas

La La Land Soundtrack: “La La Land” is a 2016 American romantic musical comedy-drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, and J.K. Simmons. The plot follows a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles. The film’s title is a reference to both a nickname for the city of Los Angeles as well as a euphemism for a state of being out of touch with reality. Mia, an aspiring actress, serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions and Sebastian, a jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail party gigs in dingy bars, but as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart. The score was written by Justin Hurwitz. La La Land Soundtrack

Since this is a musical I somehow expect a rich and melodic score that would blend in with the songs. I am in the right state of mind to enjoy a score like this, filled with both hope and the tribulations of a love story in harsh conditions. I understand so well a moment like “Mia & Sebastian’s theme”, a sweet and homely piano theme that tells me everything will be alright…no matter what happens outside when the two of them are together it’s magic. It’s not just the magic of the feeling I imagine; the music itself is whimsical and charming and every small nugget of jazzy delight just makes me see sparkles and butterflies. I am in a wonder world that reminds me of the “Marry Poppins” movie I used to watch as a kid. The composer manages to make me feel as if this score is a Christmas tree on which he keeps adding decorations, some serious, some beautiful, other playful but all of them made to enchant. La La Land Soundtrack

The music is so enjoyable that even if I am far from a jazz fan I find myself swaying in my chair at pieces like “Herman’s habit” or “Rialto at ten”. Once again the beautiful main theme returns to calm the agitation of the jazzy moments and reconnect the two characters with just a look and a kiss; and, I’m sure, a dance since Justin Hurwitz sets the musical scenery for it. I imagine taking my loved one by the hands and dancing with her in the park… La La Land Soundtrack

I’ve used a lot of adjectives to describe why I am enjoying this score and I think the two that I should return to are delightful and playful; a cue like “Planetarium” would turn even the tightest of frowns upside down. This cue is a celebration of joy and love and carelessness and all sorts of dreams and images come to my mind. I forget that I am not a fan of jazz music or musicals in general and I just want to see the movie when I hear this magical score. Justin Hurwitz just nailed what it means to fall in love, to play, to dream, to ignore reality and just dive into the most beautiful and fairytale fantasy with the girl you love. And maybe that fragile fabric that separates their love affair from reality should be broken and fairytale should become real…yes, this is a score to dream on. La La Land Soundtrack

Don’t waste anymore team reading my words, just go and listen to the music and see the film because it will be something you won’t forget.
